Knight Times April-May 2023

In service to One, In service to all
Dear brother Knight,
the Knights of Columbus do great things being "in service to one, in service to all" for our parish, community, brother Knights and their families, and for those in need. You are a vital and appreciated part of that service! 2020 was a tough year for all of us, many of us have fought not only covid, but other medical and personal issues as well. In the last year and a half we have held only two meetings and zero events. We are also behind in collection of our dues, electing officers, and submitting forms to the central council. I have sent out a few emails in this time but only a few would respond. I pray now that all of my brother Knights, and your friends and family, have weathered this pandemic and are doing well. I encourage all of you to get active again with our council even if all you do is wear your badge. Advertising us is a good way to find recruits and get people interested in us and our events.

When the pandemic lockdown made me lose one of my two jobs, I had to get a different full-time job that paid more in order to cover my bills. This job is very hard and emotionally taxing, cleaning the streets of downtown San Diego along side the homeless, many of which are mentally ill. Because I now work on the weekends as well, these factors have contributed to my neglect of my duties as a Knight.  I had not been keeping up with my duties and responsibilities and sending out timely email notifications or updating this e-newsletter. I was elected Grand Knight for Columbian Year 2019-2020, and I dived into the position head first with passion. But then covid happened and everything was put on hold. Though I desire to fulfill my responsibilities, I simply can not function as Grand Knight with my current work schedule. We need to hold elections anyway, or appoint officers in the interim. We need you to step up. We need a relatively young, healthy, active brother Knight to be Grand Knight so our council can go on. For far too long most of the work had been placed on a chosen few, many of whom, no offense, are up in age and facing medical issues that come with it, some more serious than others. We simply can no longer function with just 1% of members doing 90% of the work. Or at least the 1% we had. We need you. Please step up. Even if you are brand new, heck, even if you're not 3rd degree yet, I do believe we can make an exception in an emergency and elect you an officer. We need you. Now.

Meanwhile, I will regain my zeal for our Order and for our Church and send out timely emails again and newsletters like this one. My work schedule has changed to where i can now participate in events and meetings on weekends and Mondays, but it is still too stressful for me to be an Officer. In the meantime, please send me articles, stories, commentaries, and pics and videos for future e-newsletter editions. And to see all the great service our council gave our parish and community in the years 2018 and 2019, please go to our Facebook page by clicking hereThere is also an archive of all our events going back to our founding in 2015 here . Thank you.

Your brother in Christ,
Christopher Forte, Past Grand Knight,

Thank you to all the brother Knights who helped out at the Pancake Breakfast & Ministry Fair!

Thank you to all the brother Knights who helped out at the Pancake Breakfast & Ministry Fair on Sunday, April 23rd, 2023! Brother Knight Joseph Mantione helped me set up the table and manned it for a few hours. Not pictured but also present helping me and other parish groups were Juan Barrera, Giuseppe Scire-Cimeco, Tom Keeley, James Steidl, Treasurer Joe Buompensiero, Brian Satterlee, and Past Grand Knight James Cardinale-Hill.

While we didn't sign up any new members that day, we have a few interests and we were exposed to the parish community again, letting everyone know we still exist and want to be a contributing group again.

Meetings:
We need to meet in person and discuss our issues face to face. Our meetings used to be the fourth Monday of every month; holidays excepted. Our council has lost its certification from the State and Supreme, so we cannot meet at the church again yet. That is why for this "unofficial" meeting I believe we should meet at the Amici House, 250 W. Date Street, next to the Little Italy Dog Park, just up the street one church from the church. I'm thinking May 22nd at 6:00pm. Let's make it a potluck, free to attend, and open to all brother Knights, not just officers. Please reply to this newsletter or text me at 562-726-8326. Text only. Due to health issues, it is difficult for me to talk on the phone.

Been Away?

Many Knights get busy with family obligations, health issues, Summer trips, work, and, especially in this parish, with other groups and societies, but if you haven't been active with us in a while or paid your dues and want to get back involved, please let us know. Being a Knight isn't about attending meetings, but it does help to stay in the loop. We would at least enjoy your company at one of our events and/or volunteer actions. We value all our brothers and miss your company. Please contact our Financial Secretary Jason Gloyer at 619-466-8729, email: jason.gloyer@gmail.comand to discuss your situation. Thank you.

I'll Make You Famous

Please contribute photos, videos and stories to this e-newsletter. Send all submissions to cforte844@gmail.com.
